2GETHER is a series of interrelated short plays inspired by a love note found on the NYC subway. Eight playwrights—Jenny Lyn Bader, Brooke Berman, Barbara Blumenthal-Ehrlich, Steven Fechter, Jennifer Gibbs, J. Holtham, Kevin Quinn and Daniel Talbott—and two composers—Simon Gray and Ben Morss--create possible stories, explanations and consequences of this piece of found text.
An exploration of forbidden love across five boroughs, 2GETHER touches on themes of romance, race, class, sexual orientation, secrecy and the interconnectedness of urban life. The result—a love letter, not just between two teens, but between all the diverse voices of our city.
Two staged readings of this exciting and unique series 2GETHER is part of Six Figures' Artists of Tomorrow Festival on April 30 at 7:30 pm and May 3 at 2 pm.
Performances are at the West End Theater, 263 West 86th St. between Broadway and West End Ave. Admission is free!
“chandra thomas has enough sex appeal to make the even most jaded Chelsea boy contemplate bisexuality (a hugely complementary assessment that I’d regard as suspect had I not seen it for myself). thomas is brilliant casting; every man and woman in the audience would be hard pressed to deny how desirable she is; making Rus’s brushing off of her advances seem unfathomable. As the play progresses and Sireene is asked to become increasingly shrill, Thomas manages to add this new layer without losing our sympathy.”
~ Scott Stiffler, edgephiladelphia.com
“The principals all deliver excellent performances as well, relating their emotional essence to the audience in both words and movement. . .chandra thomas embodies the longing of Sireene without making her ever appear pathetic or weak. . . RUS(H) stands as a creative cocktail of strong writing, effective staging, innovative stylistic choices, and fine performances.
~ Fred Backus, www.nytheatre.com
“[(RUS)H] earned my admiration more than anything I’ve seen in recent months. Both more challenging and more polished than many shows with higher profiles (and higher ticket prices), (Rus)h is a welcome sign that there is still plenty of life, innovation, and bite in New York's downtown theatre scene.
